CHANDIGARH, DECEMBER 29:
The outgoing year 2020 will be remember as the year of digital transformation in Punjab’s Transport Department despite facing enormous challenges amid COVID-19 crisis. Now, the people can get the key services through online system as the department has digitized these public services.
Under Punjab Government’s digital initiative, the applicants can not only submit their documents online by sitting at home for digital driving licenses but also the State has abolished the condition of NOC for transfer of personal vehicles.
In another major step towards hassle-free services, the Punjab Transport Department has also started e-auction facility for general public to get the fancy number of their vehicles.
Giving details, an official Spokesperson said that the Transport Department was providing digital licenses to new applicants while those who had old licenses (manual driving licenses) can also upgrade their documents to digital ones. Earlier, the applicants had to visited concerned registering authority several times to submit all requisite documents for getting driving licenses but now there would no harassment with simplification of the process. The applicants can apply through website www.punjabtransport.org for driving licenses.
In another significant step, the Department has rolled out consumer friendly e-auction policy for getting reserved numbers (fancy numbers). The Spokesperson further said that under this policy the people need not visit to the office of concerned registering authority and they could join the process for fancy numbers through online. The e-auction is being run through web application ‘VAHAN 4.0’, said the spokesperson adding that the applicant would have to deposit a non-refundable fee of Rs. 1000 to join the e-auction. The entire process is being conducted in a transparent manner and results of auction upload on VAHAN 4.0 web portal besides apprising the successful applicants through SMS or email.
The Department has also removed the condition of NOC for transfer of non-transport vehicles. The entire process is now done through an online system i.e Vahan 4.0 and all the information related to vehicles like taxes, fees and fitness etc are available to the registration authority so now for the transfer of non-transport (personal) vehicles registered within the State of Punjab there will be no need of the owners to visit offices for issue of NOC.
The Spokesperson further pointed out that the Transport Department had already started the e-auction to sale the condemned buses of Punjab Roadways and Punbus, which was started from Amritsar-2 and Ferozepur depots.
Installation of High Security Number Plates on vehicles was in full swing during 2020, said the Spokesperson adding that owners of vehicles could get online booking through www.punjabhsrp.in for this purpose.
