The Punjab government has named the schools of the respective areas after Olympic medal-winner hockey players.
CM has given the approval to rename schools after the name of 11 Punjabi players of the Indian hockey team.
The team won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
School Education Minister Vijay Inder Singla said that GSSS Mithapur, Jalandhar has been named after our hockey team captain Manpreet Singh.
The school will now be known as Olympian Manpreet Singh GSSS Mithapur.
GSSS Timmowal Amritsar has been named after Vice-Captain Harmanpreet Singh.
Harmanpreet Singh was the top scorer in the Olympics for India with six goals.
He said that now the school will be known as Olympian Harmanpreet Singh GSSS, Timmowal.
Primary School of Mithapur has been named Olympian Mandeep Singh Varun Kumar Government primary School Mithapur.
Singla said that both the players performed very well during the Olympics.
GSSS Attari, Amritsar will now be known as Olympian Shamsher Singh GSSS Attari.
He was a successful midfielder during the tournament.
Government Middle School (Faridkot) has been named as Olympian Rupinderpal Singh Government Middle School, Basic girls Faridkot.
Rupinderpal also beautifully scored 4 goals in the Tokyo Olympics.
Government Middle School has been named Olympian Hardik Singh Government Middle School Khusropur, Jalandhar.
Hardik played a very crucial role in the Knock Out stage.
Primary School Khalaihara has been named as Olympian Gurjant Singh Government Primary School Khalaihara, Amritsar.
GSSS Butala, Amritsar has been named as Olympian Dilpreet Singh GSSS Butala, Amritsar.
He added that both, Gurjant and Dilpreet were playing as strikers in the Indian Hockey squad.
GHS Chahal Kalan has been named as Olympian Simranjit Singh GHS Chahal Kalan, Gurdaspur.
GSSS Hussainpur has been named as Olympian Krishan B. Pathak GSSS Hussainpur, R.C.F, Kapurthala.
He said that Pathak played as the reserve goalkeeper in the Indian team.
Singla informed that the roads connecting to the residence or village or area of the respective medal winner player will also be named after him.
He added that it would motivate the students and other youth to excel in the sports activities of their interests.
