Punjab Sports and Youth Services Minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi today extended congratulations to shooter Ria Rajeshwari Kumari who topped the podium in women’s trap event at the Asian Online Shooting Championship organised by the Kuwait Shooting Federation.
The Cabinet Minister further informed that India’s 24-member shooting contingent topped the medal tally winning four gold medals, two silver and five bronze medals. He said that in the women’s trap, Rajeshwari Kumari led an Indian clean sweep with a score of 138. Shreyasi Singh shot down the same number of birds but was placed second on count-back while Manisha Keer came in third with a score of 136 out of 150. Sports Minister said that the Indian shooters participated in the online competition from Karni Singh Shooting Range, New Delhi.
Sports Minister Rana Sodhi said that the befitting honour will be given to Ria in coming days. Pertinently mention that trap shooter Ria Rajeshwari Kumari is belonging to Patiala royal family. She became the fourth generation of the erstwhile princely state to don the senior India team jersey. Ria, daughter of shotgun shooter Randhir Singh, is the first woman from the family to be part of the international sporting arena. Her father Randhir Singh also represented the country for a record 31 years (1964-1994) and holds the distinction of competing in six successive Olympic Games. He had also won gold in the 1978 Bangkok Asian Games.
